Position Title: Residents’ Caseworker
Location: Namatjira Haven, 108 Whites Lane Alstonville NSW 2477
Reports to: This position reports to the Team Leader
Employment Status: Full Time with a 6-month probation period
Grade/Award: SCHCADS Award and benefits dependent on qualifications and/or experience
Remuneration: Namatjira Haven pays above award. Salary sacrifice and other benefits available.
Hours of Work: Days and hours to be negotiated. A typical example is a 4-day week.
Primary Objective: The Residential Case Worker is a hands-on role working alongside residents and co-ordinates service and program delivery for Residents. There is a strong emphasis on group facilitation to deliver Therapeutic & Educational Groups and Skills Development activities. This position is required to contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of service and program delivery, and to the day-to-day running and of the centre. The role involves mentoring residents in household cleaning and gardening tasks and physical health activities. In achieving this, the Residents Caseworker will be responsible for:
- Advocating and facilitating access to a range of services for residents, which may include primary and allied health, accommodation, legal, employment and education, family support, financial, AOD and Problem Gambling
- Contributing to programand service delivery design and development through active collaboration with the team, through meetings or one on one with management.
- Enhancing networks and communication with community groups and service providers
- Managing a case load of residents
- Assessment of individuals for the development and implementation of holistic Case Plans
- Record resident data into our system ensuring that all records are updated daily and are accurately captured and maintained, to comply with legislative requirements and service needs.
- Participating in regular case meetings including handover and communication with other team members
- Facilitating Groups and activities for Residents
- Contributing towards the efficient operation of the centre, including participating in quality improvement and accreditation activities and the maintenance of the facility
- Participating in professional development, training and supervision
- Complying with WHS, Anti-Discrimination, Privacy and Mandatory Reporting legislation and undertaking Ethical Practice.
Key Relationships
Residents, Board of Directors, Manager, Team Leader, and other staff, Local Communities and Community Organisations, External Service Providers.
Selection Criteria
Essential Criteria (must be addressed)
• Must be Aboriginal Male
• Minimum Cert IV in AOD, MH, or Community Services and experience working professionally with Aboriginal men with complex issues
• Manual LR Driver License or ability to obtain within 3 months of commencement
• Must have a reliable vehicle to attend work site
• Competence in group facilitation
• Good oral and written and computer communication skills
• Good personal boundaries and a solid work ethic with mentoring capability
• A current First Aid Certificate
• Knowledge and understanding of Anti-discrimination and Work Health & Safety requirements
• Knowledge and understanding of Client Confidentiality as applied to the Health Sector
• Demonstrated ability to manage challenging situations and clients and to prioritise and organise a busy workload and meet deadlines, understanding of your self care and supervision needs
• Knowledge of mandatory reporting requirements (self-harm, child protection, domestic violence)
Desirable Criteria (must be addressed)
- Ability to share cultural skills and knowledge in any of language, dance, music, art and storytelling.
