AH&MRC Monthly Update for December – Featuring Prof. Alex Brown

We are holding a final AH&MRC Monthly Update for 2024 and are excited to announce a special guest presentation by Professor Alex Brown, chaired by our CEO Nicole Turner. Following the recent announcement of investment from the NSW Office for Health & Medical Research into Precision Medicine for Public Health, Alex will discuss this groundbreaking work and how your ACCHO and community can be involved.

About Prof. Alex Brown

Alex is a proud member of the Yuin Nation with family connections on the far south coast of NSW. He is an internationally acclaimed Aboriginal clinician and researcher who has dedicated his career to Aboriginal health. He is the Professor of Indigenous Genomics at The Kids Research Institute Australia and The Australian National University (ANU). He is also the Director of the National Centre of Indigenous Genomics at ANU.

Alex leads the Australian Alliance for Indigenous Genomics (ALIGN), a national network aiming to deliver equity and benefit to Indigenous Australians through genomics.

Prof. Brown will discuss:

  • The advancements in precision medicine and its integration into healthcare
  • Its potential to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and how this can be achieved
  • A proposal to establish a precision medicine platform within Aboriginal primary care in NSW, in partnership with AH&MRC and Member Services
