Webinar – Helping People Who are Dependent on Opioids

The Aboriginal Health and Medical Research Council (AH&MRC) hosts this webinar which aims to provide valuable insights and practical strategies for addressing opioid dependence particularly for anyone working in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs).

This webinar was recorded soon after the Commonwealth Government changes to the Opioid Dependence Training Program which occurred on 1st July 2023.

The webinar features Professor Kate Conigrave who is an Addiction Medicine Specialist and Public Health Physician based at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. Her expertise encompasses the treatment of individuals with alcohol, drug, and tobacco problems, community health promotion, as well as research and teaching. Over the past two decades, Prof. Conigrave has worked closely with Aboriginal communities and agencies in research, teaching, and clinical service delivery, including at the Aboriginal Medical Service Redfern. During her presentation she provides an overview of how those working in ACCHOs can assist individuals who are dependent on opioids.

Following Prof. Conigrave’s presentation, Angela Matheson, Manager Harm Reduction at the Centre for Alcohol and Other Drugs, delivers a talk on the NSW Naloxone Take Home program. Angela brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the topic, and her presentation provides an overview of the program’s implementation and its impact on addressing opioid-related harms in New South Wales.
